As the weather warms and we move closer to football season, two Football Championship Subdivision conferences have hired officiating coordinators.
Football Zebras has learned that Matt Young, who is currently the coordinator of football officiating for the Ohio Valley Conference, is now also the coordinator for the recently named United Athletic Conference. The UAC is a football-only conference consisting of schools from last year’s alliance with Asun Conference and the WAC. Young has worked as the coordinator of football officiating for the OVC since 2017. From 2006 through 2016, he served as an on-field official in the OVC. He has also worked for the Asun since the conference began competing in football at the Division I level.
It was also recently announced that the Big Sky Conference has hired Randy Campbell as their new coordinator of football officiating. Campbell spent the last two seasons as the coordinator of football officiating for the Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference (Division II). Last year he also worked for the NFL as a replay official. Campbell brings 30 years of football officiating experience to his new position. He has officiated for six different NCAA Division I conferences, including the Pac-12, Big 12, and Big Sky conferences. In addition to football officiating, Campbell is also a veteran NCAA women’s basketball official. Campbell replaces Karl Richins, who also coordinated the officials in the WAC.
These new hires are in addition to the previously announced hiring of former NFL senior vice president of officiating Al Riveron by the ACC.
