Lucknow Super Giants do have a massive conundrum on their hand, and that is regarding the selection of Deepak Hooda.
Deepak Hooda, LSG’s no. 3 batter has been enduring a dismal form in the IPL 2023 so far, and it continued even on Wednesday (April 19). The batter only managed 2 runs off 4 balls before Ravichandran Ashwin sent him packing.
Hooda, who turned 28 on Wednesday, failed to break his poor run of form on his birthday. His 2 runs against Rajasthan means the player has just managed 39 runs in the first six matches. The batter has so far hit just 1 four and 1 six in the entire season.
Hooda’s this year has a pale strike rate of 79, and a horrible average of just 6.5. The Lucknow batter scored 451 runs for them last year with an average of 32 and a healthy strike rate of 137.
The massive downfall in his form has taken a toll on LSG’s batting prowess this season, who failed to put a big total on Wednesday as well against the Royals.
Deepak Hooda in IPL 2023 So Far
Opponent | Runs (Balls) |
Delhi Capitals | 17 (18) |
Chennai Super Kings | 2 (6) |
Sunrisers Hyderabad | 7 (8) |
Royal Challengers Bangalore | 9 (10) |
Punjab Kings | 2 (3) |
Rajasthan Royals | 2 (4) |
On three occasions, Hooda has managed to accumulate only 2 runs. And each of his innings has a strike rate of less than 100. LSG have dealt with slow start from their captain KL Rahul, who has also been scoring at a strike rate of 115. And Deepak Hooda’s bland form has compounded their problems.
