New Delhi,UPDATED: Apr 19, 2023 20:12 IST
By India Today Sports Desk: Lucknow Super Giants captain KL Rahul said he felt bad for leaving out Quinton de Kock but said that the South Africa star batter has to wait more for his chance to get a game in IPL 2023. Rahul hinted that the team combination is sorted for LSG and they had to keep someone as talented as De Kock out of action in the new season.
Quinton de Kock arrived late to IPL 2023 after finishing an ODI series against the Netherlands. And Kyle Mayers auditioned for the opening spot for LSG in the first few matches. Mayers made an instant impression with the West Indies big-hitter showcasing his power-hitting with 2 fifties and a cameo in the first 5 matches for LSG.
Quinton de Kock was warming up in the lead-up to their IPL 2023 match against Rajasthan Royals in Jaipur on Wednesday, April 19 but he was not named in the starting XI for their big-ticket match or in the substitutes list.
RR v LSG, IPL 2023 Updates
De Kock had scored 508 runs in 15 matches at a strike rate of close to 150 for Lucknow Super Giants in their first season in IPL 2022.
“We are quite settled. We’ll try to keep that left-hand, right-hand combination going. Quinny still misses out. Yeah, I feel bad for him but he’ll just have to wait for some more time. I have enjoyed opening with Quinton,” KL Rahul said.
Lucknow Super Giants have been able to win 3 of their first 5 matches despite not having Quinton de Kock in their side at the start of the IPL 2023 season.
On the other hand, Rahul’s strike rate has been a cause for concerns for LSG in the new season. The out-of-form star has struggled to get going, failing to find consistency — something that he has done well in the previous seasons.
Before Wednesday’s match, KL Rahul had scored 155 runs in 5 matches at an average of 30 and a palty strike rate of 113.
On Wednesday, Rahul struggled to get going in the powerplay, managing just 19 runs in as many balls despite two dropped catches in the powerplay against Rajasthan Royals.
